Put 4K on the large living-room television and leave everything else on HD. On a phone, a tablet or a bedroom set, HD looks materially identical and uses roughly a quarter of the data, which is the difference between three screens running comfortably and three screens competing. That is the fastest way to establish whether a screen is genuinely receiving 3840 x 2160 or a 1080p feed wearing a 4K label, and it is a check worth running on any seller, not only this one.
Resolution on its own proves little. A 4K feed starved of bitrate looks worse than a well-encoded HD one, because the extra pixels are paid for out of detail in fast movement. A real 4K sports feed should be visibly consuming more bandwidth than its HD twin; if it is not, the label is decoration.
Do it once per screen during the free trial, starting with the television that matters most. It takes about a minute and converts a claim on a sales page into something you have seen with your own eyes before any money moves.
Because a 4K stream wants roughly three to four times the bandwidth of the same channel in HD, and that multiplies fast: two 4K streams will saturate a line that carries four HD ones without complaint. If HD is steady and 4K stutters, the limit is your connection, not the account, and no seller can fix it for you.
Work through it in this order. Put the device on Ethernet, because wireless is the usual culprit. Switch hardware decoding on. Check whether a second 4K stream is running elsewhere on the same line, which is a common and entirely self-inflicted cause. If it is clean at midnight and unwatchable at eight, the congestion is upstream, and a quick test on mobile data will confirm whether your ISP is the problem.
A 4K set is one link in a chain. The HDMI port has to be 2.0 or better, and whatever is plugged into it must decode 4K itself. A great many buyers discover the bottleneck is an older Fire TV Stick quietly outputting 1080p regardless of what the television can do, which is worth knowing before blaming the subscription.
